Grand Final Day 1 Overview

As the first day closes on a pool of 37 players of the starting 115 in the Pro League Grand Final tournament, the dedicated team of Western Australian Poker League prepares for the second day of its inaugural two day Grand Final format. The Grand Final caps off a particularly special season that introduced the Championship series of events and changes which have brought about increased tournament prize pools. In response to the increasing calibre of play amongst the WAPL ranks, the Pro League Grand Final has been changed to a 10,000 deep stack with 30 minute blind rounds on the first day of play. The final 37 players will be playing to determine the Season 12 champion at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow with 40 minute blind rounds. Sadly, several of our past Grand Final champions have not made it through to Day 2 but they'll still be able to enjoy the special events, cash tables and Sit'n'go's.

The Free League Grand Final tournament finished up with a nail-biting and agonisingly prolonged heads up between Julian McEntee and Barry McGee. After battling their way through a field of 57, the two players put on a great show with much excitement and cheering elicited from the eager audience. In the end, Barry's cards won out and a champion was declared. Congratulations to Barry, the Season 12 Free League Grand Final champion!

Day 2 of the Pro League Grand Final is being hosted at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow in Northbridge and will be the site for the awarding of prizes, trophies and certificates to those who have earned themselves top ranking in the Season ladders, amongst other achievements. Thank you to those who came along and played in Day 1 – we hope to see you tomorrow and aim to give you another fun-packed Grand Final day!

Our current chip leaders heading into Day 2 are -

Darren Mundy - 93,000

Mark Wood - 81,500

Patrick Healy - 79,500

Table positions and chip counts have been verified and recorded and will be set up on Day 2 accordingly. We urge our final 37 to arrive before midday as we will be restarting the tournament promptly at 12.

Good luck at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow tomorrow!
